Sample Preparation - Gas Analysis

DIC sample preparation

  • Samples have to be submitted in 12mL Exetainers (with butyl rubber septum) with a 4mL Helium head-space insertion.
  • Samples will need to be acidified using phosphoric acid (H3PO4)
  • Both head-spacing and acidifying can be done here at our lab with a small cost

N2 sample preparation
  • Samples can be submitted in 3mL or 12mL Exetainers with a 1.5mL and 4mL Helium head-space insertion, respectively.

When submitting samples:
  • Do not over tighten the Exetainer caps. Vials will leak when caps are over-tightened; causing the septa to pucker and pull away from the vial. Turn caps until firm.
  • Avoid thick labels (e.g. wrapped tape) or stacks of labels (e.g. new labels over old labels), as these will have to be removed for the sample vials to fit into the autosampler tray.
  • Ensure Exetainers are shipped either in the original box supplied, in small ziplock bags, or wrapped in bubble wrap to avoid any breakages.
